Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

pretrial / Probation and Deposit account fraud

In aug of 2000 i was called by the magistrate for 2 bad checks totaling 50.00. i was sent to the pretrial/probation department. I went on probation and i paid on my fines for a while and then called my po and left a message to reschedule a meeting (called in 2001). well he never called and never called...Being the nieve person that I am i thought I was finished with my p/p and my papers got lost in the mail (we have horrible mail)...I'm concered that I am not (my checks are still on file as being bad at the store i wrote them to)...i moved in 2003 but kept the same job and have never been contacted or arrested...(in 2004 i had a wreck and they checked for warrents but none came back)..If i call my po or show up will they arrest me?...what can I do to avoid arrest and trial...i am willing to pay..that is not the issue...but i have never been contacted and really dont know what to do. I dont know if i should call them or just send them money and see what happens...I'm scared to do anything...i'm a single mom and if i get arrested i will lose my job and my son (my parents will take him from me)...Please Help me!

Re: pretrial / Probation and Deposit account fraud

You could attempt calling the sheriff's department in the county in which you were charged and inquiring if you have a warrent. You could also call the probation office. If there is a warrent then they should tell you. If there is a warrent then you will be arrested if you are in person or asked to come in and surrender yourself. It is a probationer's responsibility to keep in contact with the probation department.

If there is a warrent then you need to know or you may be arrested at an inopportune time. You could have an attorney inquire into this matter for you if you are uncomfortable. I would advise possibly speaking with an attorney.

The foregoing is general information only, not specific legal advice. No attorney/client relation has been created or should be implied.
