Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

Public Defender

What is the role of a Public Defender or what services can a person expect of them. Also, I am aware of ''case loads'', but is it normal to have no communication with an assigned Public Defender?

Re: Public Defender

The Public Defender is offered as either a state or federal government service to provide attorney representation to defendants who can not afford to hire an attorney. As with any government office, many Public Defenders are over-worked, and many defendants don't get the "customer service" independently hired attorneys can provide, as hired attorneys typically have a smaller case load (they can afford this by charging a fee for their services).
