Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
I recently signed a lease agreement to a house that was previously leased by my ex. He technically has till march 31st to get his stuff out but this past weekend told my family he was done with the house and wasnt coming back. I went to the house early, with police escort and permission, went inside the house, and was then told by the police it was okay to put anything else in the house i didnt want by the side of the road. Turns out he had another guy living there, whom the landlords didnt know about. The guy came to the house in the middle of us throwing stuff out and is now threatening with criminal charges of tresspass and burglary. Since i had permission and was accompanied by an officer, am i the one held liable for damages/charges or would it fall back on the officer who came into the house with me and gave me the go ahead to throw things out?

You may need a lawyer. You didn't have permission. Police can't give you permission to enter someone else's property, and while the officer that purported to do it probably should be fired or seriously retrained, you're responsible foryour own actions.
