Recovery of Personal Property

A few years ago, My EX-brother in law (brother of my ex-wife) was let to borrow an old Gibson J-50 guitar that my father bought when he was only 15. It is somewhat of a family airloom. My Ex-brother in law has been contact by me through email and phone calls, but ignores them all. What steps can I take to retrieve this guitar? Should I look at Small Claims Court? Are there any basic legal documents to send him, discussing the situation, before going to court?

It may be to your benefit to sue him in small claims court, depending on the amount the guitar is worth. (most likely small claims court though). Can you prove that this item was in fact your father's? Does he have any proof that you may have given it to him? These are certainly questions that you will want to have answers to prior to filing. You will have to prove to a judge that this is in fact your property. Call or email if I can assist you further.
