Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
I am currently serving a five year first offender probation sentence for the state of Georgia. I qualified for the first offender because before this i never had been in any kind of trouble. They gave me permission to travel to where I live in the state of Michigan. They applied for a transfer of my probation and I am waiting to hear whether or not Michigan will accept me. Until now I have been supporting myself with unemployment checks.I've been looking for unemployment but have been unfortunetly unsuccessful in find a job. I recently received notice in the mail that I would no longer qualify for an extension of benefits due to an expiration date of Feb. 28 which had not been extended. I had not expected this and was devastated.Since then I have been worring nonstop about how I will survive with no income.I don't know what I'm going to do. Well a week ago I was at the grocery store shopping for food what money I had left. I was so worried about what I would do once I spent everything I had. I made a bad decision and tried to steal some of the food I had and needless to say Iwas arrested for trying to take $20 worth of stuff.I don't condone stealing. I felt so hopeless. I am so scared of what is going to happen to me now once Georgia finds out my being arrested . Because I was put on first offender probation does this mean I will go to jail for a long time? What can happen to me now? I am so scared!!!!

Well, it's POSSIBLE that GA might not find out, but I wouldn't want to take that chance. Contact a criminal attorney in the county where you got the first offender sentence; maybe he/she can do some damage control.
Violation of First Offender means that the original court that sentenced you can now sentence you to the maximum you could have gotten at the time you got the First Offender sentence.
