Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

while the sheriff's dept was removing items from my home due to a foreclosure, they found a small amount of marijuana in my home. i was en route from work, and so the sheriff left his card with my neighbor for me to contact. when i called him, he stated that there were no charges against me. fast forward a year later, i was pulled over for a license plate holder that covered the tag on my license plate. upon giving me a warning for this, the officer asked if he could run my license, and i granted him permission. he came back and let me know that i had a warrant and was subsequently arrested. the charges were for misdemeanor possession and paraphrenalia (2 separate charges). this is my first offense. is there any way for me to get these charges dropped? if not, is there any way to avoid the license suspension and this charge going on my record?

I would strongly encourage you to hire a lawyer on these charges. In fact, the judge will probably make you hire one. If you cannot afford one, you can ask for a pulic defender if you qualify financially. Yes, there are several options to avoid the suspension. It just depends on the facts of the case and who the judge and solicitor are.
