Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

What do I do after the sherriffs department arrest the person that shot my house cat with a bow and arrow. They arrested him (he admitted he did it) and let him out on bond. What do I do to make sure he serves time and pays my vet bill. I have no idea where to go from here.

There is no way to guarantee someone serves time, and serving time probably guarantees your vet bill goes unpaid.

What you do want to do is sit down with the prosecutor in that county (either the DA or solicitor depending on what the charges are). Let them know that you are interested in restitution as part of any sentence, and, if you really want jail time, express that. What actually happens will depend more on the prosecutor, defense attorney and judge than on what you do, but your effort may help.

You can also sue the person in Magistrates (Small Claims) court for the vet bill as a civil case.

Contact the DA in your county and let them know that you are interested in the prosecution of the individual. It will be about a year before the case goes to court. SO, exercise some patience.
