Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

I have a simple battery family violence misdemeanor charge. I tried getting a job at a State Prison and I tried going into the army, they told because of my charge I couldn't work there. How many years does it take for my misdemeanor charge to not be an issue for employment?

It will be reported for your whole life. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that you will ever get a job in law enforecment, prisons or the military. Some mistakes you do carry for life and domestic violence is one of those. That makes it very important for others with that charge to get a lawyer and look towards pretrial dispositions that do not result in a conviction or plea (when that can be worked out).

Your question is confusing. First, I suspect that you have a conviction rather than a charge. If you have a charge, which means that the case is not closed, then you need to retain an attorney. If you have a conviction, the conviction will appear on your record for the remainder of your life. Second, the question of how long it will take for the employers that you are considering to not consider it an issue is not a question that any attorney can answer. Some employers will never hire you, others will hire you when they are desperate for employees. See website for more info on expungements: www.lawrencelewispc.com Good luck
