Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

Simple battery.

What is the penalty for pleading guilty to simple battery in Georgia? Can you do this before your court date and get it out of the way or do you have to appear for this? I feel I have no other choice. I recently chose to end a two year friendship with someone that knows intimate details about my life due to our friendship. She is using the details to cause utter disarray in my life and the lives of other close friends of ours. Nothing against the law. Nothing I can do anything about. I lost my temper with her and slapped her, as a result I was arrested for simple battery. I have no idea how to keep her away from my life at this point as I've been told to stay away from her. She come out of this the victim....just like she wanted.

Re: Simple battery.

The maximum penalty in Georgia for simple battery is 12 months in jail, although based on the circumstances you have outlined that outcome is unlikely. The Court can probate the sentence. You can almost always enter a plea before your court date if the Court is agreeable on a "plea date". This may be a good option for you. Let me know if I can help you further.
