if somesome took a check from me signed my name to it in cashed it would that be forgery and if so is there a statute of limitations on what i can have done

You need to contact your bank immediately and call the police. Chances are that if you know about it then it hasn't been that long ago since this took place. Yes, the person should be arrested and go through the process.
