Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

theft

my cousin ( homeowner who lives in calif.) filed a police report against me saying that i stole a washer,dryer,&refrigerator from the house i rented from him in georgia .my mother(who lives in calif) is his witness & says i told her i took his property .i did not take it. now the police want me to come in & make a statement. do i need an attorney with me when i go to the police? what kind of action would take place next? my cousin filed this claim 4 mos. after i moved out of the house. would this be considered a small claims or a criminal issue or what?

Do NOT speak to the cops. It can only hurt your case. And no matter what the cops tell you, nothing good will come out of your visit to the police.

Hire a lawyer and let the lawyer contact the cops.
