The first "plea" is an arraignment and this is like a first appearance and the defendant pleads "guilty" or "not guily". What you seem to be referring to is a "plea" date. That is how it is styled on the courts docket and this is where the defendant comes in and enters a plea of guilty and is sentenced. At a plea date there is usually a negotiated plea in place that was struck between the defense and the prosecution.

A plea date is a court date for pleading guilty to all or some of the original charges or maybe some reduced charge(s). If you really want some answers beyond this general information and you have had no luck with the assistant public defender handling the case, you can contact the chief publice defender. Good luck.
