Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

tricked into pleading guilty at 17 years old

i need to know if i have a way out of this. i am a new mother, and i am also on the run for v.o.p. i was accused of stealing a diamond ring from a house, and i did not do it. the man called the cops WITH THE RING IN HIS HAND. i was innocent. i was in jail for 2 months and released after i was put thru a fast trac program, in which my awful lawyer told me before entering the court room- that fast trac ment i was pleading guilty. so i agreed with everything she said in court. i was only 17, it was my first offense, they considered it a felony, i ran due to not being able to pay my fine, now its been over a year and i need to know if i can settle this without jail time, because i just had a baby, and i cant give him up! please help. please answer.

Re: tricked into pleading guilty at 17 years old

Without agreeing or disagreeing with you as to being tricked, I can certainly appreciate your predicament and feeling that you have been railroaded.

Your best chances to clear up things, I feel, might be to address the issues of what to do now and how to rectify the situation.

Did you get sentenced in the first case to a first offender plea? This could be very important to you. Is your only violation of probation that you did not report and pay your fines? In other words, do you now have new charges?

I would strongly recommend you secure representation from a private lawyer, and work through him or her to deal with the arrest of probation warrant, the hearing and what to propose when you are before the judge at the revocation hearing.

I believe there is help for you, but would have to talk to you further to fully explore what has happened to this point.

Good luck, and call me if you think you want to hire counsel to handle this matter for you.
