Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
My wife has been in jail for 2 weeks on a failure to appear for arraignment. They tell me she will likely be in jail for 3 1/2 more months until her bond forfeiture hearing comes up. We cannot afford to get her an attorney. She filled out a request form for a court appointed attorney but has had no response and I cannot find out any further information from the jail or courts. Will she really have to serve 3 more months in county jail before seeing a judge? How can I get a court appointed attorney for her? This is her first time in trouble and her being away from the home has devasted our family. We have no previous experience with the legal system and do not know waht to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

No attorney who has not examined all the facts of your wife's case and is not familiar with the judge on her case can answer your questions. By hook or by crook, she needs a lawyer.
