Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Georgia

Slander - Defamation of Character

False statements have been made that have resulted in personal and professional embarassment and possible loss of of future promotional oppotunities along with a very disruptive family life . A manager under my direct supervision made statements to my wife and suboordinates that I was possibly having affairs with several different business acquaintances. This has led to an internal investigation where my position was thretened by my supervisor. I have requested that this manager be relocated to a different project due to I am having a difficult time dealing with this individual professionally. I was told that the company cannot take any action against this individual and that I needed to try and hang in there until a position may come open for this individual. My question is, do I have any grounds where I can force my employer to relocate this individual? Is this individual liable for their statements ?

Re: Slander - Defamation of Character

If the individual made knowingly false statements against you, you could have a claim of slander. As to forcing your employer to move this individual, there is probably little you can do legally. Try to appeal to their sense of fairness to get you away from the person.

The foregoing is general information only, not specific legal advice. No attorney/client relationship has been created or should be implied. I recommend that you speak with an attorney of your choosing before taking legal action.
