Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Georgia

State of GA, Labor Dept.Career Center Age Discrimination at work

I am 58, have worked for GA for 4 years, and am still at the bottom of the pay scale. I have received excellent grades on every one of my performance evaluations, even receiving two ''exceeding expectations'', which I was told was a rarity. For 3 yrs. we have known that a co-worker in the office would be leaving her job, and my supervisor has told me for those 3 years that he wanted me to move into her position. In June of 2005 another position came open and he encouraged me NOT to apply for it but to wait on the other position to come open. During my 4 years, no training has been offered to me that would enhance my chances of obtaining any other position, or help me gain any knowledge of my department. In the beginning of Sept. 2006 the co-worker told our supervisor that she would be leaving by Nov. and he immediately beginning training a woman in her mid thirties who began work on 1-16-06 for the job. He also has signed her up for 4 other training classes in the upcoming months. When I talked to him about it he said that I could apply for the job and would probably get it because I had college and she didn't. However, he is the one who does the hiring. I feel that because of my age I am being treated unfairly. It is a small office

It could be age, but it could be something else. Other than pointing out your respective ages, you didn't post anything that would lead to one reason over another. You can see a lawyer who may be able to tell you what to look for, but you'll need more than an age difference.
