Legal Question in Education Law in Georgia

concerned College Student:Can they make me live on campus?

I am a student at a private college. They have a listed requirment that we must live on campus for two years. After my first year I have realized that they just need the money. (It is 10,000 a year to share a "box" with three other people!") A proffesor of law, my intended area of study, has incouraged me to fight this requirment. I have a meeting later this week with the housing review council. I need some help!!! Perhaps a similar case with a ruling in my favor? It does not matter what state it is from. My profeesor, because he teaches at this school, is staying out of it and will not help me much more. He has told me that at 18 years of age you can legally be a resident of the community so they can not do this. I would appreciate any ideas. I have tried searching myself but I have had no success. If you can not provide a case I would appreciate some direction as to where to look. Thanks.

Concerned Student: Can they make you live on campus?

This is a difficult question to answer without more detailed information. My first suggestion is that you check your student handbook and see what information you were given prior to enrolling. If the matter is clearly explained, you may have to abide by their rules. Because you are dealing with a private entity and basically are in "contract" with it by your enrollment, if these "conditions" were clearly defined, you probably don't have any recourse.
