Legal Question in Education Law in Georgia

Private Schools' Rights and/or Limits

To Whom it May Concern,

How far can a private religious high school go with

its rules and regulations? For instance, my friend goes to a private Baptist high school. If she is ever seen on the weekend by any of the faculty wearing shorts than she can get in trouble at school. They wear unforms to school, so shorts there are not a problem. Is this legal? Another example is if she was seen by any faculty at a St. Patrick's Day parade in my hometown last month then they would consider possibly suspending her from school permenately. They also watch her at the mall where she works to see if she breaks school rules and regs outside of school so she can be punished in school. Are rules that border on constitutional rights legal even if the handbook states them? If not, what can be done? Thank you for your time...

Re: Private Schools' Rights and/or Limits

When one goes to a private school, they usually are informed of the rules and disciplinary policies when they enroll. The schools usually require some ascent (agreement) by the student/student's parents to those rules. As such, they've entered into an agreement willingly and are obliged to honor the terms of the agreement.

Not sure what you mean by "bordering" on Constitutional Rights.
