i am 76 years old. i was 72 years old when i got my first mortage. I now need to go to the nursing home. my income is not such that I can pay for the stay. I will need to apply for medicaid. If I make application to medicaid, how will my home be assessed for medicaid recovery? will it be assessed for medicaid recovery?

Your home will not be counted against you for Medicaid qualifications. However, the state can put a lien on your house at your death to recovery the amount they have spent on your care under medicaid. If you sell your house the proceeds can disqualify you from receiving Medicaid .
This can be a very technical area. You need to get good advice before you do anything.
