Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Georgia

Songwriter

I am thinking of selling my sond To a band that performs in my area. I would prefer to lend them the song so that I retain furture rights to the song. I don't even know what a fair price is. The song is not copyrighted yet but I have proof of ownership. Should I just sell or find a way to allow them to use the song while retaining ownership, and making money?

Re: Songwriter

Assuming that your song does not infringe on the rights of any one else, you have a copyright from the time you wrote the song and put it on some kind of media - paper, tape, etc. Whether you want to allow the band to play your song, for money or for free, is totally up to you. If you want to allow them to play it, I would recommend that you have them sign a license agreement, which will dictate the terms, including who retain ownership of the song.
