Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
hello, i am an 18 year old looking to adopt my 13 year old friend. the reason i am want to do this is because of his house hold. first of all, he lives with his grandparents because his parnets are both in prison. and his grandparents dont treat him well. just today they threatend to kick him out of the house and cause him physical pain, his grandmother dug her fingernails into his arm so deeply that he actually started to bleed. he took pictures of his arm. i am currently in the army, i have a stable job, and i can support him and myself. but, i do not know the rules for adoption. would i have to have his grandparents permission to take him? i basically need all the information i can get, so i can help my friend as soon as possible.
with thanks,

As a non-relative, you cannot initiate an adoption without the permission of at least one if not both parents (and if the grandparents have legal custody) without theirs. It is extremely unlikely even with permission that a judge would allow any 18 year old to adopt a 13 year old.
