Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

14 year old child custoday

My 14 year old wants to live with her mom because she has no rules at her house. She is constantly getting into trouble b/c of lack of supervision. Is there any way of getting around the law of her choosing where she wants to live?

Re: 14 year old child custoday

There is no law that lets her choose.

In Georgia, if a parent files a case, a child who is 14 can express a preference, and the judge will follow it UNLESS he finds it is not in the best interests of the child. So while a judge may often follow what the child wants, that is not always true.

Your best opportunity to obtain custody will be by obtaining an attorney to represent your intent to do what is is in your child's best interest
