Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
I have a 23 year old daughter who has a 2 year old daughter of her own. She currently lives with the father of the baby although they are not married. They live in Savannah. GA. Neither the father nor my daughter has a job. I live in Atlanta although all of my family resides in the Savannah area.
The baby is in need of help. She is dirty all of the time. She was behind on her vaccinations up to a week ago when the parents allowed my ex-wife to take the baby to a doctor to have them updated. Her teeth are terrible as well. She is constantly constipated due to a poor diet.
Although neither the father nor daughter has been arrested there is drug use that goes on as well. I personally have not seen them use but have seen both high and family members have as well. The daughter was also hospitalized last year for an infection due to using a contaiminated needle.
The father was prescribed oxycoton a few years ago due to a work related injury. He has not worked since. My youngest daughter is in rehab due to an addiction to oxycoton that was originally provided by him. My oldest daughter who has the baby and the father make frequent trips to Florida to a clinic that provides prescriptions for the drug. They then sell part of the drugs to have money.
There are several family members in the Savannah area that are capable of providing a good home for my granddaughter. Myself and wife are also in a position to do the same.
What options do we have to take the baby away from the parents?
