Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

My 9 year old daughters father returned to his country of origin and we have not heard from him in 3 years. Is there an amount of time before his rights are forfeited?

There is no automatic forfeiture of parental rights. It is a court procedure to terminate parental rights, and only then in certain circumstances such as a stepparent adoption. I would suggest you have a will done naming a guardian in case something happens to you. The father could step in for custody, but at least the named guardian could put up a fight.
