Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
I'm an 18 year old high school student living with my father. I just recently moved out of my mother's house. My mother said to me recently that since I'm still in school, all it takes is one screw up and she'll be here to make me move back in with her because she feels that this move was an escape for me. Is this even legal? I'm under the impression that once I'm 18, high school student or not, parents can no longer legally dictate things like that. Am I not free to decide where I want to live, or is she trying to scare me into doing right? I've looked around and haven't been able to find anything regarding this particular situation. Thanks.

At age 18, you are an adult and have some decision-making authority over where you want to live. Neither parent can force you to live with them.
In the State of Georgia you are legally an adult at the age of 18. Your parents cannot dictate where you live. However, since you are still in high school, it is difficult for a parent to accept the fact that they no longer can control your actions. Keep in mind that although you are 18 and legally an adult, you still may need direction from your parents.
