Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

adoption rights

I have a friend who is in jail and will be for the next 30 days. He recieved a letter stating that his ex girlfriend has married and her husband is trying to adopt their daughter. If this happens will he lose visitation rights? There was never any specific rights or stipulations because there has never been a court hearing on the matter of them or their child. Do you have any advice on what he should do in order to noot relinquish any rights to his daughter? Thanks so so much.

Re: adoption rights

You should consult an attorney because his legal rights are tied to the legal relationship he has with the mother. If they were never married he will probably need to legitimate the child and keep the child from being adopted but you need to contact a family law attorney and discuss the case with them.
