Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Alimony Adjustment

I have 2 years of Alimony payments left. The court ordered my ex-wife to sale the house and give me 20% equity in 2000, it is still not for sale. I loaned her money in 2002/03 for house repairs to be paid back when the house sold. Can I stop paying alimony. She owes me approx. $72,000, alimony balance is $42,000. The economy has hit my business hard and I cannot afford to keep paying when she owes me money.

Re: Alimony Adjustment

You cannot violate a judges order just because someone else does (unless you want to risk being cited for contempt). See the lawyer who represented you in the divorce to discuss if you can file a contempt and/or modification.
