Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Alimony Allowance

Hello, I am disabled. I get a SSI check monthly for my disability. The only other income is that of my husband. Can you please advise me as to what the alimony laws are in Georgia. Is there a cretian percentage? How does it work? Thanks in advance.

Another Response

I agree with Mr. Charles W. Field who provided you with the first response to your question. There are many factors the court would examine, including but not limited to, your standard of living, your husband's income, your income, and any other extraordinary circumstances, etc. Also, because you are receiving SSI, you may lose SSI if you have too much "income" on a monthly basis under the Social Security Administration definition. From your question, it appears that you are still married. It is best if you contact an attorney and provide more details in order for the attorney to more appropriately respond to your question.

Re: Alimony Allowance

There is no formula for alimony in GA. The only rule, vague though it may be, is an amount that is "fair and equitable". You should consult with a local attorney for more information.
