Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Alimony

I was married less than a year as of my filing and wondering how much or how long my future exwife will possibly qualify for alimony. There are many circumstances where we had agreed for her to work and to get child support for her children, and I ended up footing the bill for it all throughout the time we were married. She is still owed over $9000.00 and confiscated our tax stimulus check. She never did work and refused to even when we had no money. Is there a maximum limit or time for alimony based on the length of marriage? If I can prove my support through the marriage and her lack of responsibility to support her self, can that help me?

Re: Alimony

There is no standard calculation for alimony. The length of time of a marriage, the parties' resources, and ability to work are all considered, and alimony is less likely in a short marriage. These are all issues for which you need to have a lawyer, and a lawyer can tell you more after reviewing details that you did not post.

Re: Alimony

Unlike child support, there is no formula or guideline for alimony. All the facts of the relationship need to be considered. Consult with a local attorney.
