Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Asset lien in lieu of child support

Can an asset lien be obtained in lieu of back child support from a deadbeat dad? Better yet, can a deadbeat dead be compelled to surrender his equity in a home in order to satisfy back child support?

asset lien & child support

Arrears in child support can be treated like a judgment and enforcement can be sought as with any other judgment ... but - first the arrears must be "established" by way of court action. If there is more than one state involved, this could be not only time consuming, but also could be complicated by differences in how judgments are treated & whether both states are 'in' the same Interstate Compact. Yes, murky stuff - contact your local social services agency where you 'may' be able to get a more specific reading.
