Can a attorney do this?

I was legally divorced in July of 07 and ordered to pay 900.00 per month for 2 children and no alimony.I went in Oct of 08 to try and get my child support modified.The defending attorney gave me a bill for 4,800.for attorney fee's and asked the Judge to change his fee's into Alimony.Can he do this and how would you have to pay alimony over nearly 1.5 years after a divorce..Is this legal????

Sure (depending on the language of the previous order). Attorney's fees are a special form of alimony and labeling it as alimony gives you fewer ways to avoid paying. As you found, modifications are not do-it-yourself projects, and thet often boomerang against the party filing, especially when filed so close to the original decree date.
