Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
We have an Aunt that lives near by that does not have any children, we are her closest relative. She is showing advanced signs of dementia and I am concerned about her continuing to drive and live on her own. Every time we try to talk to her about giving up driving or moving into an assisted living facility she becomes extremely angry. What steps can I take to get her evaluated and the help that she needs?

If her driving is a concern, contact the Georgia drivers license (DDS) office in Conyers and ask for a supervisor. Depending on details they can order her to be retested for her license.
Additionally, meet with an elder care lawyer about whether you want to seek a conservatorship or guardianship (or both) in court.
I would speak with an Elder Law attorney or an attorney who handles Adult Guardianships. You may eventually have to file to be appointed her Guardian and if appointed, will legally be able to make decisions on her behalf. Under that action she will be seen by a court appointed psychologist who will make a recommendation as to her mental capacity. No one wants there freedom taken away so no matter what you do, she will be angry. Again, speak with an attorney.
