Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Avoiding delay tactics
In Cobb Co, how long can someone make excuses for postponing mediation without the divorce moving forward? Is there a way to force this to move forward? After several postponements, soon to be ex is now saying he cannot discuss this, even with his atty without having panic attacks. So he is claiming that he cannot go to mediation or court. He hangs up on his own atty. Previous excuses were 1) could not get off work, 2) no money 3) death of distant family member that he had no relationship with. This has been going on for almost a year. His goal is to never allow the divorce. Delay tactics have resulted in inability to continue to pay own atty so representation was dropped.

Re: Avoiding delay tactics
There is no specific time limit. However, judges want these things done in a reasonable and timely manner, although there is no specific definition for those term. Assuming you have an attorney, get him/her to file a motion asking the assigned judge to set a day certain, with no excuses allowed.
