Birth certificate name change
An infant was born in Cobb County Georgia in June 2002. The parents are not married. The father was in prison at the time of birth. The mother of the child was not allowed to use the father's name as the sur name of the child. The father is still in prison and would like to have the child's name changed. How would he go about doing so. Would he be able to appoint a power of attorney for this to be done even though he is in prison.

The father needs to legitmate the child. He can do this with the consent of the mother and include changing the name of the child as a part of the final order of legitimation.
