Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

I have a certificate of marriage (not the same as a marriage license - was told it's the formalization of a common law union) from TX and now reside in GA. Is this certificate of marriage recognized in all states? Can I legally change my last name using this certificate?

Georgia recognizes the Texas common law certification. However, to change your name, you would have to file a petition in Superior Court in Georgia unless you changed your name legally while in Texas.
