how do I change a minors name
I am getting married and i plan to adopt my wifes 2 year old son. I am in the military and i will have to wait a year to start the adoption process. I want to know if we can get his last name changed to ours, and then do the adoption in a year?

Although you are increasing your legal fees by doing these things separately (as an adoption also can change the name), it is possible to do a name change by itself. The mother would be the one to file it (and you would not be legally involved at all). If the father consents, it's rather simple. If he does not, it may not be as simple, depending on information I'd need to ask you.
