Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Child Name change

I signed my daughter's birth certificate and acknowledged paternity. The mother filed a petition to change the last name stating she did not know where I was. This was false. She knew where I was and I was providing support. Can I have my daughter's last name changed back to mine?

Re: Child Name change

Yes, you might be able to. There's a bigger issue here though, other than the name. The child appears to be illegitimate. This means you have no access rights. If you want access rights you need to legitimate the child. You need to consult an attorney to determine all your rights and responsibilities.

You may be able to get the case reopened, which would be expensive.

However, that doesn't solve other issues. Until you legitimate the child, your rights to see the child do not exist.
