how can i have my sons last name changed, if his dad is in jail. his last name has a real bad reputation where im from. and i wanna give him a good start before he gets in school

The simplicity and cost (or difficulty) depends on things you did not post, including whether the father might agree and whether he has in the past supported or visited with the child.
