Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Child Support Arrears & Contempt of Order
I have a court order for child support that my ex-husband has been in contempt of since December 2007 for over $4000. The state child support service is not doing much of anything to help even though I applied and paid for full-service! What are my options?

The most the state can charge is $25.
You do have the option of hiring private counsel but the retainer would likely be more than what you are owed. The attorney could do a contempt or possibly a garnishment. Of course an attorney also could face some of the roadblocks the state faces.
If he is not paying at all (for at least 30 days), you may also be able to do a criminal abandonment warrant.
