Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Child Support Checks

My divorce papers state I must write 12 months of child support checks, six months in advance before her last check from the year before is cashed. Last year I sent her her checks a month before the last set of checks were cashed. I was going to do the same this year but now she is threating to get me for contempt of court order. She would like me to pay thru GA Childrens Services but I would not agree. Does she have a legal right to charge me with contempt even though she still has checks to cash til the end of Sept. 2003? And can she make me pay thru GA Children Services when she has not missed 1 check?

Re: Child Support Checks

I do not quite understand the rule you describe in your decree on the timing of your support payment obligations. It sounds very unusual. Could you please send me verbatim the relevant language from your decree? Then I might be able to get you some definite ideas. My e-mail address is [email protected]
