Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Child Support Question

My 16 year old daughter lives in Georgia with her mother. Duringthe summer, while visiting me in Florida, she decided she wants to live with me. At 16 can she make that decision? If she can how would I go about having the child support I'm paying her mother stopped since she would be living with me? My divorce and child support orders were all made in Florida courts.

Re: Child Support Question

You can bring an action in the Georgia courts in the county where the mother resides for Change of Custody and Support. You daughter can elect the person whom she wishes to live with, but this may not be the person she ends up with just because she elects to. In the event that you are granted sole custody then child support will end and you can begin receiving support from the mother of the child.
