Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Child support reduction

have 2 children, 1 becoming 18 in June. What do I have to do to get the reduction process started, to make sure it takes effect at the proper time, as they take the child support out of my paycheck. Also, can college funding to a child over 18 be enforced?

Re: Child support reduction

You need to look at the child support order and income deduction order to see if it stops automatically. Then you should contact the authorities directly to see if they do intend to stop the payments. If not, and they say they need another order, you will have to file an action in the appropriate venue to get the payments stopped. You are right to do this now; sometimes it's hard to get the money back after its gone.

Re: Child support reduction

You will benefit from hiring representation from the outset, since you will likely need to retain counsel if your ex spouse hires an attorney. If you initiate the action on your own, you may make mistakes that will increase the cost of retaining counsel later on.
