Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Child support

my son turns 17 next month. next year I can not claim him on taxes, which doesn't make sense b/c he is not a legal adult till he's 18. why is that?

but overall my ex has found out about this and has it in his head that when he turns 17 that he doesn't have to pay child support b/c the government will not let you claim him after 17.but the divorce paperwork states that till he is 18 and/or graduate from school. he will 19 when he graduates from school.

You should consult with a tax preparer who can review your divorce papers and properly advise you on this issue.
