Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Child's Last Name
Girlfriend and I were living as man and wife when child was born. Since have seperated. I have been legalized as father. What do I have to do to get child's last name as mine?
Thank you in advance,

Re: Child's Last Name
When the child was legitimated you should have asked that the child have your last name. Because it is our custom, generally the judge will consider it. Now, you will have to file a name change that will likely be contested. You will have to convince the judge that the child should have your name and the judge will look at the big picture to make the decision (does the child have siblings with the same name, what is the name of the mother, how old is the child, and on and on.)
Re: Child's Last Name
Your post is confusing. Without knowing if you were actually married or not, and what you mean by "legalized as father" (there's no such thing), I can't fully answer you. However, assuming the child has the wrong last name and both parents agree, we could do a name change pretty easily for you if you're in metro Atlanta. Call me for details.
