Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

civil case

I am involved in a legitimization case (GA). The father doesnt want anything to do with the child, this was his way of further harassment about child support. I obtained an atty and told him of the harassment and did not want legit. 3 hrs without seeing the judge I was advised to sign papers against my better judgement. 3 wks later the father agreed to give up parental rights, if I gave up child support. I paid $450 to dismiss the case, my atty informed the court a dismissal was coming, 3 days later I walked it in to cty clerk. The next day found out the judge signed the order 2 days after being informed of the dismissal, 1 day before the dismissal was entered. Do you think the order will be vacated? Or do I have to appeal?

Re: civil case

It is impossible to advise you about your best course of action without reviewing the documents, including the order. Consult with a local attorney.

The attorney you have is the only person who can answer you, but it unlikely that you can appeal your own settlement, and judges do not let people give up rights to see the child and duck child support. Do NOT risk custody of your child and anger a judge with such a request. Regardless of whether he sees the child he must pay support.
