Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Contempt of Court

I was awarded alimony in divorce settlement. We split all bills. For 4 mos he paid alimony&bills. He paid part of the alimony for the next 3 mos, but not any of the bills. He has now stopped paying anything.Lawyer filed a motion for contempt Aug 22.Then I had to wait 30 days(Sept 22)for his response. He never responded. She asked for a court date a few weeks later.I waited over a month for a court date (Nov3).He didn't show up.She said she would send an order to the judge for contempt&that he had to pay me in 10 days or go to jail. She said she would do that the next day(Nov.4)I called a week later. She hadn't sent the order to the judge yet.I asked her when, she said''when I get around to it''.I leave messages on her machine, she never calls back.On Nov 16 she sent the order to the judge to sign.Ex had 10 days to pay or go to jail by Nov.25.Left a message for her on Nov 21 to see if judge had signed the order. No return call.I left message on Nov 28.She called&told me not to leave messages on her phone saying she didn't return calls, it demoralized her. She knew nothing, would call when she heard if judge had signed.Nov 30-Haven't heard from her. This has taken over 4 mos now.I'm ready to file bankruptcy.Should I get another lawyer?

Re: Contempt of Court

Well, you could complain to the State Bar but the quicker course of action would be to immediately fire her and get a new lawyer.

If what you said is true, contact the CAP program at the state bar of Georgia immediately by phone. Here's a guide as to how: http://www.gabar.org/programs/consumer_assistance_program/
