Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Contempt of court per child support issues
My ex husband violated our custody agreement ordered by the judge. I was supposed to pay him child support and he was supposed to give me visitation. He has never given me the visitation. He filed child support on me. When I went to court they made me take a plea bargain even tho I had a hand written statement from him saying I was up to date on my child support.I am currently in arrears of 2 yrs. I havent seen or talked to my children in over 3yrs. He doesnt want me to be a part of their lives so why do I have to go to jail for not paying child support? I dont have the money to pay $2500. for an attorney. I am supposed to serve 1-5 years in jail for this. Please help me. Thank You for your time.

The obligation to pay child support is independent of your right to visitation. You should consult with a local attorney to see about working this out.
