Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Contesting Power of Attorney

My aunt who is 87 and in a nursing home has granted Power of Attorney to a woman who prepared her meals. This was done without the family's knowledge, behind our backs. It was signed by the Nursing Home Doctor, who barely knows our aunt, and is not her regular physician, who stated she was competent at the time. Several workers at the Nursing Home said she was NOT competent..This is a Durable Power of Attorney, and includes medical and financial..Family members who have been visiting our aunt had no knowledge, but was informed by a nursing home employee..This person now has full access to our aunt's bank accounts. IS THERE A WAY FOR THE FAMILY TO CONTEST THIS POWER OF ATTORNEY.. Our aunt is disoriented at times, and sees and hears things that are not there. This caretaker took advantage of our aunt and now can go through her life's savings..Is there any way to get before a judge with revoking Power of Attorney?

Re: Contesting Power of Attorney

You need to hire an attorney to file suit to have the POA declared invalid as soon as possible. Contact the management of the nursing home to let them know what is happened, since the person who allegedly did this is an employee there. Contact the Governor's office of consumer affairs also and see if they have any suggestions. There are many predators who see the elderly as easy targets.
