Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Currently, there is no custody aggreement. My child stays with me most of the time, but his mother and grandmother see and care for him as well. As of now, we all reside in Georgia. However, I plan to move to Illinois within the year with my girlfriend. I want custody of my son. He can see his mom on major holidays and summers. Because of state to state laws, how can I go about getting custody of my son?

Right now, without a custody agreement, you have equal rights to your child. I assume you were married to the mother or you legitimated the child.

If you want formal custody, in Georgia, you can file for custody and seek child support. You simply have to open a case. I recommend that you hire an attorney to file the matter.
