Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Custody of a friend

My g/f has 3 guys in her life that are her father, step fahter, or god father...

All 3 of them say they have custody of her and the others don't. She has asked for papers and a birth cert to prov it but they will not show her. How do I/her find out who has legal custody of her?

Re: Custody of a friend

Your answer depends on a couple of things. First of all, where is her mother. Secondly, was she born in Georgia out of wedlock. Third, has there been an adoption proceeding. Lastly, how old is she?

Re: Custody of a friend

Records of custody would be a matter of public records. They would be in the Superior court of the county where custody was awarded. A notable exception would be if there was a deprivation proceeding in the Juvenile Court, those recods would be sealed. I don't know how old your girlfried is, but is she is over eighteen, then none of them have "custody" and she is an adult.
